Commitment to Public Service

At Maxfield Gunning, LLP, we are passionate about community service and living in a just and dignified community.

Eric Maxfield is committed to public service with a focus on solutions to homelessness, access to justice, and access to healthcare. Eric proudly serves as Board Chair at the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, a nonprofit where he worked on staff through the 1990s. The Shelter’s mission is to create avenues to stable housing for our community’s homeless adults, from a foundation of supportive and safe shelter. www.bouldershelter.org.  Eric also volunteered at a Domestic Relations Post-Decree Clinic in Adams County from 2013-2018, where he assisted individuals experiencing domestic violence with custody and support issues. He served on the Advisory Board of the Women’s Lighthouse Project in Denver from 2005-2007, supporting women living with HIV/AIDS. Eric volunteered at the Planned Parenthood clinic in Boulder from 1994-1999, providing HIV-risk counselling.

Rob Gunning has engaged in a wide array of community service and outreach activities over the past 20 years.  In fall 2019, he will serve as an Adjunct Law Professor at CU Law School, teaching State and Local Tax.  Currently, he volunteers as a mediator with the Boulder County Small Claims Court.  He has served various professional and legal organizations, including service as a member of the Louisville Local Licensing Authority (2007-2013), Boulder County Planning Commission (2010-2011), Colorado Bar Association Tax Section Executive Council (2009-2011), Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry Tax Council (2004-2011), and Colorado Bar Association Legal Fee Arbitration Committee (2006-2013).  Rob has also volunteered for several non-profit entities over the years, including the Sister Carmen Community Center.

Eric and Rob are both active members of the Colorado Bar Association and local bar associations.  We are committed to pro bono service and have served as pro bono attorneys through Boulder County Legal Services and Metro Volunteer Lawyers.
